The job of the educator becomes very difficult when faced with the complex array of problems students bring to school. The school's primary function is to provide an environment where students can learn, practice and develop those skills that will prepare them for life. Many students experience problems which inhibit their ability to learn and cost the child, the school and the community. The cost of unresolved problems among youth are realized in declining academic performance and drop-out rates, absenteeism, tardiness, class room disruptions, stress related physical , social and emotional disorders, phobias, memory loss, kleptomania and violent outbursts. Over-ambitious parents drive their children too hard to become achievers. And in the fierce competition to be a topper, the children pay a heavy price. Parents' expectations, as perceived by the students, are high, sometimes unrealistic, leading to a sense of burden in the students. Part of the reason why parents put pressure on their wards is because the teachers stress them as much it does on the students. Early identification is the first step in therapy or rehabilitation. ASPTS is a sensible, humane, scientific and cost-effective approach for the schools. Many CBSE & ICSE Schools in and around Kollam and Trivandrum have benefited out of this program.
